Character: Sarah Cloyce
The reason why I picked Sarah Cloyce is because she is the main character in the movie, ŌThree Soverns for Sarah.Ķ I think that her situitation was unfair and unhuman by the spectral evidance that the young girls accused her of. I think that Sarah Cloyce was a very wise woman, who strongly belived in her principals. I belive Sarahs top values were, loalty, truth, equality, authority, life, promise keeping, liberty and property. SarahÕs decisions she made during the times she was accused of witch craft, and put in jail, I think was based around her personal values. When Sarah was in her court trials, I think she feared what her fate was to become, and belived in destiny. I also think that she was terrified of being accused of such evil practices. In the position she was in, being faulsly accused by the theocracy and the children, was a very horrible dilemma. Despite SarahÕs situation, she still faught unselfishly for her personal rights, and her dignity.
What was impressing was, to prove herself innocent she used gods holy words to defend herself in court. SarahÕs courage was also conclusive, when she had outrightly accused Mrs. Putnam using the accused witch trials to avenge the deaths of her 7 babies. Unlike most of the women, who were accused and decided to leave their dilema in gods hands, Sarah enforced her rights. From the beginging of the horrible witch trials, I think that Sarah was strong and was not afraid to voice her say about her rights. Though I think that Sarah was stripped of her reputation as a good christian woman during those times in 1692. SarahÕs sisters, Rebecca Nurse and Mary Esty, also suffred these events, and died innocently to mass hystaria. Sarah, helplessly watching both being vicioucly torn apart from her, added to her strength and hope to have justice done. Sarah Cloyce was a good christian woman, and I think that she forgave the accusers, and focased on the will do what is right. When Sarah had gone to clear sisters name of witch craft, her purpose was evidant. Sarah wanted justice for her two sisters. That justice belonged to all of the innocent women hanged. Sarah knew that what had happend in 1692 was unfair to the women that had died. But Sarah had seen no real justice, and was burried with three soverns. I think that she had some sense of victory in the end. The victory of proven innocent.
