Mrs. Morks Class
Education Careers
Day 1
I have been looking forward to my first day in class since last week. I'm in the bus now, and I am on my way to Verstovia Elementary. I thought that it would be important that I wrote down my feelings before I got in the classroom. I feel a little nervous but eager and enthused at the same time. I'm kind of scared about what to expect out of the kids but I think that I will over come that. My mom is a teacher and I know how important a teachers expectations are for his/her students.
The day started out very nice in Mrs. Morks 3rd grade class. I was surprised about what I was observing. The children are very well behaved for their age. The children at my home town can never act so well in the classroom. This is the first time I realized how much different Village kids are compared to City kids. Anyway... There are 4 kids to a table and all had their hands folded nicely. (I think that since I know Mrs. Mork very well, she had prepared her class for my first day.) So she introduced me to everyone and then she asked me kindly if I could sit in the back of the room, so I did so with a smile. I sat there and looked as professional as I could. After I did so class began. The lesson today was how to write acrossistic poetry. Mrs. Mork has a very nice way of teaching her students. I could easily tell that she was very confidant and experienced with her teaching. So now that everyone know about how to write acrosstic poetry the students began their brainstorming. I mainly walked about and helped anyone with spelling and ideas on what to write about salmon. I was of course very pleased to help with anything.
There was this boy that had not started his poem, so I had to start him off with it. I asked him, "How come you didn't start yet?" and he said, "Because I don't know what to write." So then I said, "What do you think about when you think of salmon?" and right away he was listing some details about salmon. Here is what he wrote
Some are Big and some are small,
And some are flat and some are Fat,
Like many fish they live in the ocean.
Many have sharp teeth that are tiny.
Opening and closing their mouth all the time to breath.
Nothing tastes better than salmon.
Over all my first time being in a class was very exciting for me. I enjoyed it very much.
