Updated articles from our Elementary!

Last night the trailbreakers came here. They had wide-track Polaris,
RMK and Sport Touring snowmachines. Here are their names: Terry Boyle,
Scott Duly, Steve Giband, Ray Abifter. Some we woke up in the morning
and some were already up. We took a picture when they were eating
breakfast. They let us sit on their snowmachines. There was no
overflow on the trail. Overflow is open water.

Doug Swingly came through this morning. Andrew was coming down the hill
and he saw him pass by with his dogs, he was wearing a yellow coat.
Jareth saw him from the school. the rest of the class missed him he
came through so fast!

Yesterday at 6:30p.m. Linwood Fiedler was the first musher to Shageluk.
He said he was going to take his break in Anvik. That lady asked him
what he was going to do and he said he was going to have his 24 hour
rest over in Anvik.

Channel 2 News is here now too. They're asking Leroy about the Iditarod
I think, and we were on National TV. They stayed at the school last
night in the library. They brought their sleeping bags and Carolyn had
to open the store so they could eat some food.

Jeff King came around 11:00. He stopped and start feeding his dogs
around the school. We got his autograph, I think he's going to stay
here 5 hours. He had this icycle around his mustache and he stopped
where he always stops beside the school steps and then he went to use
the microwave after he took care of his dogs. He had 11 dogs.

Jerry Riley came at 11:04 and he has all black dogs. He stopped around
the pole by the school. Melanie took a picture of him. Andrew counted
his dogs and he had 12.

Rick Swenson just came here. He told the vet that his dogs are sick and
one dog has a broken toenail. He said he has superglue and the toenail
is barely hanging on the dog. He had 15 dogs then.

Pictures are of Jeff King and Jerry Riley.

Pictures of Rick Swensen still to come.

I, Leroy Freshman at the Innoko River School was interviewed this morning by KTUU of Anchorage. It was pretty fun and interesting. They were asking me some interesting questions about the Iditarod and what we do to make it happen.. They asked me about the webpage and the pictures they look for on the Iditarod.

We wanted to document local people from our village because if it weren't for them the race woudn't be the way it is now.

There was alot of local checkers and local trailbreakers that worked hard to get this race on.

9:35 update: Jerry Riley should be arriving Shageluk within an hour.

No new updates as of 6:00 A.M. Friday, March 9. Mushers are on the trail between Iditarod and Shageluk. Stay tuned! Trail action should start soon!
